SUBOXONE

Frequently Asked Questions

Suboxone is a medication that contains buprenorphine (an opioid medication) and naloxone (Narcan). This medication is used to help individuals recover from opioid use disorder (OUD).

One part of Suboxone (buprenorphine) reduces withdrawal symptoms and cravings without producing the full effect of other opioids. The second part (naloxone) can be used to reverse overdose from opiods, and is included in suboxone to help discourage intentional misuse of buprenorphine.

Side effects are uncommon, but they can include headache, constipation, trouble sleeping, ankle swelling, trouble urinating and rarely, liver irritation. Pregnant women should not take Suboxone/buprenorphine.

Suboxone/buprenorphine is very safe with a low risk of overdose.
